I guess the happiest place on earth is not that happy with 5 inches of rain. The employees did not seem like they wanted to be there. We braved the storm, arrived at the park at 9pm and stayed until 11:30. Our boys are serious troopers, they were soaked but we had a great time. We will try it again tomorrow, they are saying it is going to rain even harder. I guess that just means shorter lines for us. At least it seems a little like Christmas with some weather.

Once again sorry for the vacancy, it is amazing how life goes so fast with children. Just an update, Lindsay is doing well the walk was fantastic and inspiring. Thanks to all of Lindsay's team and any others that joined them on the trail. The holidays are here and for many reasons we are looking forward to 2011.

Yet another friend of ours has been diagnosed for the second time with breast cancer. She will be undergoing the same procedure Lindsay did in May. This just reaffirms the reason we need to continue any type of breast cancer research. Our prayers go out to her and her family.

Disneyland

We are heading to see Mickey soon. I have not been in about 25 years, I am sure it looks a little different. I know I have asked this question before but is Goofy a man or a woman? I would hate to have to check for myself when we get there.

Merry Christmas to everyone, may all of your holiday dreams come true. Thanks for the year of support and unconditional love given to our family.

Wow!!!!!! The journey once again started yesterday. I was fortunate enough to be at the opening ceremonies of the 3 day walk. This was the culmination of Team Boobweiser's fundraising, training and love for the search for the cure. It is hard to put into words how emotional the ceremony was. My love for my wife continues to reach new peaks. To see a woman go through what she has been through in the last 6 months yet be so dedicated to do this is once again inspirational. I was able to watch thousands of people set out on a three day march which means something different to all of them.

The boys, my mom and I were met by some close friends at the first cheering station of the day. It was so amazing to finally see the team. The boys were unbelievably calm and understanding of the wait, and once they spotted their mom it was all worth the wait. The ladies walking for Team Boobweiser were energetic and ready to take on the world. We then met them at 4 other places throughout the day. The boys were troopers and hung in their the whole way.

I then realized these ladies were walking for my wife, but not just that. They were out there because their friend had gone through a hellish year and they were there to support her but there was more to it than just that. I soon found out a ton about these women. This was a commitment to Lindsay, a commitment to there bodies and a commitment to themselves. These ladies truly are walking for hope, love, pride, life and for the cure. What a beautiful way to honor a friend and themselves.

Today we met the crew at the first cheering station in Scottsdale. It was amazing to have friends and family show up, what an uplifting moment. The boys and I then went to meet the ladies at 6 other points on the walk route. The people in the walk really enjoyed seeing the boys in their pink shirts, Dylan swears he gave out a zillion high fives. They are awesome young men if I say so myself. My pride as a father to see those little guys cheer on so many people is overwhelming.

We have some other friends that were walking as well. They have been doing it for a few years to honor a friend of mine from college, Eileen. It was wonderful to see all of them on the path as well.

Every time we were able to see the team I reminded them how proud I was of each and every one of them. For some reason chokes me up every time. There were women on the team that had extreme blisters from yesterday yet they were still out there. My wife is battling some throat issues and foot blisters yet she is still out there. The ladies all had ailments I guess that is what I am so impressed by, none of them were complaining they just kept walking.

The ladies on the team wanted to let me know that some of them had used some of the shuttles to take them up a few miles but my wife refused to do so. There is no shame in taking one of the shuttles many of the walkers do it. Once again I am very proud of my wife she is an inspiration along with all of the other walkers.

Tomorrow will once again be a very emotional day. I am looking forward to it.

Well the time is finally here. Friday morning, Team Boobweiser will begin the journey of walking 60 miles to fight breast cancer. I can't believe this is all happening. Just 8 months ago I was hearing the words, "I am sorry to have to tell you this, but you have breast cancer." This weekend we will celebrate survival!!!!!!! I decided to fight and I have to say, winning feels pretty darn good! There are 15 members of Team Boobweiser that will be walking along with thousands of other men and women. I think we are all looking forward to this life changing experience. Thank you to each and everyone of you who has supported us along the way as we worked to reach fundraising goals, trained, and just listened as we shared our excitement. The route has been posted and below is a list of cheering stations. It would be amazing to see some of you out there along the way to keep us motivated and moving!

Cheering Stations
Public cheering stations are a great way to show your support along the route to encourage walkers and let them know that you are with them every step of the way. Seeing familiar faces cheering them on can provide that extra burst of energy that gets them to take that next step or go the next mile. Create banners, hold up signs, bring some music and make some noise - anything to make them smile, get energized and keep walking.
Please note that only registered participants with a valid event credential should be walking on the 3-Day route and utilizing the 3-Day pit stops. We ask that all supporters and spectators gather at cheering stations in order to show their support, and do not walk the route or drive along the route.

Hello,

We are 1 week away from the 3 day walk. Lindsay is doing well and ready to walk with her friends and many others that have been on similar journey's. I will try to post on here the various cheering stations. The boys and myself will be hitting many along the way all three days. We also plan on being at the finish which is at the State Fairgrounds, 19th ave and Grand. Thanks again to all of you that have donated, were a part of the golf tournament, my co-workers and all of those that made it possible for Team Boobweiser to be walking in this incredible event. By the way Team Boobweiser is looking to top the $40,000 mark, they are currently at $38,000. We were not a part of this weekend last year, I guess God works in many ways to help us help others. I cannot tell you how proud I am of my wife for being dedicated to this cause. Her friends/support group have been amazing, thank you for all you do.

Like I said I will try to post the cheering stations, I think you may be able to access it on the 3-day website as well. If you are cheering or want to be a part of the finish line please bring your signs to encourage the walkers. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. bmcmains@hensley.com

Politics

Well it looks like we have a case of gridlock in the House. There are now Republicans and Democrats that will have to make decisions on how to make things better. I think this is a good thing, lock them all in a room and make them work together you would think one or two of them would have some good ideas. My son just told me he needs to poop really bad so I need to go now. Thanks

Lindsay is feeling much better today. I left her on her own and went back to work. Sounds like she did good with the boys, she is still supposed to be taking it easy so no lifting either of them. I will have to say I missed them all today very much. Hopefully she is done with the very worst parts of her journey. She has another doctors appointment tomorrow for a check up. I sure love my wife and hope these are the final days and minutes of pain she will have to go through.

After being off for a few days it is always fun to reflect on the time spent with my boys. These two guys are amazing. They make me feel young and old at the same time. They make me feel alive and inspired. I wish I could be more like them as far as being stress free(except Dylan gets a little stressed sometimes). They have become my buddy's my pals and my best friends. I truly hope I am half as cool as they think I am.

Thursday, September 23, 2010

Today was a much better day. Lindsay is still hurting a bit but it is mostly the site of the incisions. She was able to sleep a little this morning then we went to Dr. Boll's office. The doctor said everything looked good and to see her in a week. She wants Lindsay to take it easy for a while but other than that she said everything is good. Lindsay was just able to take a shower which she said was fantastic. She is on her way to feeling better!

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

They sleep.... They boys and Lindsay are all sleeping, the house is silent what a day. The surgery went well as I said before, Lindsay was then in recovery for a couple of hours then we came home. It was so nice for her not to have to stay in the hospital this time. She is feeling good although the headache she has seems to be overiding the pain of the surgery. We have a doctors appointment in the morning and will hopefully be able to see the finished product. She still has an ace bandage on that we cannot remove until then.

Thanks for all of the prayers and well wishes today I know every little bit helps. Today was another reminder to us how amazing doctors and nurses are, please hug one if you see one.
Dr. Boll just came out to tell me she is done with the surgery. She said everything went very well and she looks great. Two hours in the recovery room and we will be on our way home. She will then get some much deserved rest and relaxation and hopefully she will be able to sleep.
They just wheeled Lindsay back to the operating room. She was getting nervous again to be expected. It was a much different feeling before the last surgery, I think hope is a good thing and the feeling that this may soon be a part of her past. Right before her last surgery we had the entire nursing staff crying because we were. Lindsay did shed some tears but had very high spirits. Luckily the entire staff that will be in the room with her including the doctors will all be female. They assured her she will be cosmetically sound by the time they let her go. She is definitely in good hands.

One of the nurses was with me when they wheeled her back to her room after the last surgery, I remember the slightest bump would send Lindsay into major pain. Now that was a rough day for her. The anesthesiologist is the same one that was with her during the last surgery and was with her for her C-Section with Brady. At least there are many familiar faces, although I told him I do not want to ever see him again unless it is due to child birth. He did not take it personally.

Once again at times like these it reminds me of the strength I see in my wife. I am constantly impressed with her ability to make people in the most uncomortable situations feel comfortable and the goofy thing is that she is the one going through the bad part. I did give hugs to the nursing crew and some tears did roll. What a journey!

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Hello, I am back to begin updating Lindsay's progress tomorrow during and after surgery. Dr. Boll explained the procedure to us again today. It sounds like a much better process than the last surgery that is for sure. They have set aside roughly 3 hours to complete the surgery then 2 to 3 hours in the recovery room and then I get to take her home. Hopefully this time she will be able to sleep in our bed rather than sleeping in a recliner. Luckily Lindsay has time on her side she is not quite as old as me so I think she heals quicker than an old man like myself.

So much has happened in our lives since the surgery on May 27th. It seems like a lifetime ago. We have definitely found out how many wonderful people we have in our life. Those who will do the tough work, stay through the difficult times and still be there for the good times as well. Our thanks again go out to all of you that have done so many things for us and the thoughts and prayers along the way have helped us tremendously. Any text's, phone call's or e-mail's just saying that you are thinking about Lindsay have gone a long way in her recovery process. So thank you all again.

Grocery Stores

For some reason I must be obsessed with grocery stores, probably because I am in them constantly due to my line of work. Why is it that some register clerks feel the need to give you the play by play on all of your grocery selections when checking out? I was behind a lady the other day and she had a variety of things on the conveyor belt. The register clerk decided to point out to the entire store that she was buying apples, rice, toilet paper, and that her monthly bill had obviously arrived. He felt the need to say hmmmm it is going to be an interesting night. Isn't his job to just stand there, shut up and take her money?

Tuesday, September 7, 2010

Sorry I have been seriously MIA the last month, I guess I have been caught up in something called life. The golf tournament took plenty of our time and thanks to all of those that helped. It was an amazing day. We had 200 golfers and 20+ volunteers. It was a great day full of friends I have not seen in a long time, people I had just met and an outpouring of support. I cannot believe how many people were so generous with their time and money. In the end it was also extremely emotional I had a serious breakdown while addressing the crowd but everyone was very supportive so thanks again to all.

Lindsay is scheduled to have her next surgery on September 22nd. Dr. Boll says that this surgery will be a walk in the park compared to the last one, I still have my reservations about that it is still a surgery. Hopefully she is right and Lindsay will recover quickly. I think she is excited about the possibility of sleeping on her stomach soon, that is a big deal considering she has not had that opportunity since May 26th. I will try to keep everyone updated on her progress.

Mickey Mouse

I just finished reading a Mickey Mouse book to Dylan. I get confused while reading Mickey. How is it that a mouse is bigger than most cats that are in his stories. This book was about Minnie owning a cat and Mickey and his nephews were kitty sitting. A mouse owns a cat that cannot speak yet the mouse can talk. Do you understand my confusion? Then there is Pluto, this poor dog has to listen to what Mickey says and once again he cannot speak. Shouldn't he be eating the cat that cannot speak and that cat should be chasing all of these mice that have somehow mastered the English language? Luckily this book did not even have Goofy or Donald in it. What is the deal with these two? Donald needs to put on some pants and I cannot for the life of me figure out what Goofy is. Is he a dog and if so why can he talk and poor Pluto cannot? Oh well I guess I should get back to something like Shrek, now there is a cartoon I can understand.

Monday, August 9, 2010

Sorry for the lack of blogs lately I have been a blog less chump. Lindsay has set a date for the next surgery, it will take place on September 22nd. Hopefully this will take away the rest of the pain and the uncomfortable feeling she still has. They are saying it is an outpatient surgery and is a walk in the park compared to the last one. I beg to differ it is still surgery so that will be painful.

Thanks to all of the participants in our upcoming golf tournament, we are up to 180 golfers so it should be a fun day and a big contribution to Susan G. Komen.

I wanted to say thanks to California for taking away the constant news in Arizona about immigration. They have now overturned the bill to prevent gay marriage. Right, wrong or indifferent I do not see anyone boycotting the state of California for their stance on this issue. I am actually for the right to gay marriage, it is about time they get the opportunity to try and make a marriage work. Divorce lawyers in California just got a big break because believe it or not gay people have just as many relationship problems as straight people. Choice is a good thing, and choosing the person you are going to love is your right as an American.

Lady GaGa

What is up with this chick, is she Madona or something bigger and better? Is she a major league butter face or is she just hiding some insecurity issues with all of those masks? Is she for or against SB 1070? What is she doing getting naked at all of these baseball games? Oh well like I said choice is a good thing, specially when it comes to music.

Don't even get me started about Tiger Woods. He was +18 for the tournament he played in this weekend, his worst score ever. Don't get excited ladies that was his score not a measurement.

Lindsay has completed her final expansion, the doctors have told us to schedule the next surgery in two months. The surgery is supposed to be a cakewalk although I beg to differ I am sure it is not going to be easy for Lindsay. These are the times that make me realize how amazing my wife is. She is tough, cool under pressure, emotional and the greatest mom on the planet. You would not even know she had a bi-lateral mastectomy on May 27th by looking at the cover of the Awatukee Republic on Friday. There she is sending her oldest son off to his first day of full time school, and of course they wanted their picture. Our boys have helped us so much throughout this journey. They do not understand how much strength they convey to us. Their love is so unconditional. We are so blessed to have what we have.

Hair bands

Yes a good friend of mine asked me to go to the Scorpions and Tesla concert with him the other night. He is an agent for a few of the bands from this era. I found myself backstage speaking with the lead singer of Tesla and in the midst of the guys from the Scorpions. During the concert I realized the art of the guitar solo and drum solo has gone by the waste side. I don't understand how something that is such an integral part of a concert could be gone. Today you have chicks (Lady Ga Ga) and dudes (Eminem), singing into a microphone that corrects their voice as they sing. I am telling you it was pretty awesome to see bands play because they want to play. I wouldn't say it was a breath of fresh air because half way through the Scorpions the breath of fresh air I smelled was coming from a joint. Oh well at least their are still those living the dream out there.

Lindsay is feeling better today, one more time to the doctor on Monday then the oncologist on Tuesday. She is almost there. Our little man Dylan is starting all day kindergarten on Monday. Where did the last 5 years go? We are so excited and so is he, it is going to be scary for Lindsay and myself but he will do great.

Immigration

This is the only thing on the news in Arizona these days. I have a proposal that will help all parties involved, I am sure many of you may disagree but bear with me. We pull our troops out of Afghanistan and take the 500 million dollars per week that we spend over there to put our soldiers in harms way for no apparent reason and we build the Great Wall of China on our southern border. 100 ft tall, 100 ft wide and we create 3 ports of entry. We then work with our immigration officials to help those who would like to be here legally to become citizens if they meet the criteria. This would create jobs and bring our soldiers back to help protect our borders not Pakistan's. Just a thought....

Sunday, July 18, 2010

Lindsay had a pretty good week, she was in some major pain early in the week due to the expansion. The last two days have been good. I know I keep saying it but once they get the expander's out and the real thing in I think she will feel much better. I am just excited to be able to hug and hold her again without her being in pain. Once again thanks for all the prayers and help that we have received.

Thanks again to the people at Hensley for putting together a raffle and lunch to benefit Lindsays walk. Warehouse personnel, drivers, salesmen, administrators, owners and all the big dogs were present and donated. We cannot thank Doug Kendall and everyone that helped out enough. They raised some serious money. Once again it is amazing to see people come together, people are awesome!

Our golf tournament is getting big, I have changed my goal of 144 golfers to 200. They were nice enough at the Biltmore to give us the second course for that day so we will have plenty of room now.

Movies

We went to the movies last night. I learned that the people that make kids movies are the only ones with original ideas left, the other people continue to put out cop movies where the two cops hate each other in the beginning and then become friends and save the world. The second part of my learning process was finding out how much everything costs. $10.50 per adult $8 for kids, seriously wow... The real shocker was the price of their nachos, $7. Do these people understand that our country is in the middle of a recession? I will make this promise now, if Obama can figure out how to get the movie theaters from gauging us with their nacho prices I will vote for him next time...

Monday, July 12, 2010

Yet another day at doctor Boll's office, these people are becoming family. Lindsay once again is in some pain due to another expansion, I think we are getting very close to being done with them. I hope so because I hate seeing her in pain I think she has gone through enough. We also were able to see the general surgeon Dr. Eden. He was very happy about the way things looked. He left it up to Lindsay on weather or not she would be going on Tamoxifen which is a hormone blocker. This is an effective yet scary drug, it creates mood swings and sometimes puts you into early menopause which is not ideal at 33. The hormones are what accelerate the cancer so that is what this is used to block. We will be getting more info from an oncologist soon. Just when you thought the fun was over!

Quick question

Why does the guy on the Bachelorette always have to tell everyone that they are down to the last rose? Could he please for once just stay in the hallway and let her give that last rose out? Talk about someone begging for airtime. What a joke. If you are wondering how I know so much about the show, it is because my wife MAKES me watch it.

Saturday, July 10, 2010

Finally a cloudy day in the valley. Lindsay is feeling good but for some reason is still having pain daily I think due to the expander's. Hopefully 5 more expansions then we can get on to the next surgery. Brady sure is happy that she can hold him sometimes, he missed his mommy for sure.

Life

There was a story on the news last night that a lady left her baby on her front door step in his car seat for 30 minutes in 110 degree weather. What is wrong with people, we are worried about immigration and oil spills. I think it is about time we put together a bill that makes people have a licence to have a child, put them through some testing before they can make babies. After all don't we need a license to drive, get married and fish?

Tuesday, July 6, 2010

Yet another expansion today for Lindsay. Unfortunately for her it hurt bad today, the needle has not hurt her that bad in the past. The good thing is that Dr. Boll said it is great that she is getting feeling back in her skin the bad thing is that she is getting feeling back in her skin and it is painful. Hopefully she only has a few left, this part of the process is not fun for her. She is doing very well other than on the days the expansion occurs. The boys are being very helpful.

Speed

There was a story on the news tonight about a couple of guys that were able to collect 120,000 signatures to go against the speed cameras that we have in the valley. My question is if you have enough time in your life to collect 120,000 signatures why are you in such a hurry. Get a life and slow down dudes.

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

We were able to get out of the house tonight for about 2 hours. Yes this means Lindsay is feeling better. We went to Zipp's to say goodbye to 2 girls that she has worked with for a while, they are moving. Everyone commented on how great she looked, I think she looks better than ever. It is hard to believe she had a double mastectomy 32 days ago. Don't get me wrong, she still has a few more procedures to go through, but she is feeling better and that is all that matters.

Thanks to the Hladik family for dinner! You have been incredible.

We have secured a date for our golf tournament to benefit Team Boobweiser (Lindsay's Team)in the 3 day walk. The tournament will be August 14th, 7am at the Biltmore Golf Course in Phoenix. It will be $75.00 per player. We will have great raffle prizes and silent auction items. We are also working on getting a good room rate just in case people want to stay the night- and for those that are traveling from out of town. I will post an entry form on this site in the next few days if anyone is interested.

Heat

Every summer in Phoenix the local "professional" meteorologists think that it is good to remind us that it gets hot here. They get out and interview people on the streets and ask them questions like "can you believe how hot it is?" Right on schedule tonight one of these so called "weathermen" decided to try to fry an egg on the sidewalk. Hello, we live in the desert. I hope these guys do not make more than teachers, firemen and policemen. Unfortunately I think they do, the bad part is that they feel like they serve the public. Here is my forecast for the next two months in the Metro Phoenix area. It is going to be mostly sunny or partly cloudy and HOT. Thank you, do I have the job?

Monday, June 28, 2010

Day 31 after surgery, it seems like it has been 3 months not one. Today Lindsay had her second expansion, it went better than last week I think because she knew what to expect. Now of course she has some pain due to the stretching of the skin and muscle. She is dealing very well with it she is tough. Hopefully next week will be one of the last expansion's then we will begin to schedule the next surgery.

Thanks again to the Hunter family last night for the food, you all are awesome. Thanks to the Master's family on Saturday for holding their own party to benefit Jo Jo getting to walk on Lindsay's team in November. They raised $1350.00 towards Jo Jo's portion of the team.

Foresight

I was driving around today and noticed on the back of a guys truck two scorpion stickers. We sometimes see scorpions at our house, this of course reminds me that I have not found one in quite a while. I get that feeling that there is a reason I saw those stickers on this guys truck. Of course tonight in the garage I almost stepped on one, I killed it then did a full house search for any others. These are the freakiest creatures on the planet, if you have not seen one under a black light you must check it out it is creepy. I guess the point to my story is why in the world would you have two scorpion stickers on your truck? Get a life dude!!!!!

Friday, June 25, 2010

Lindsay finally had one of her better days so far. She felt as normal as she could at this point. She is not looking forward to her next expansion which is on Monday, they will attempt to put in 100 cc's per side which sounds painful to me. Once again this is a part of the process and this will help her get to a better place.

Thanks to the Weldon family for bringing us food on Thursday you are fantastic people. Thanks to the Collums family for dinner on Friday, the food was fantastic. I think I gained 5 pounds just looking at the pie that Mindy made. You are all very inspirational and it is very heart warming.

We have secured a date for our golf tournament to benefit Lindsay's 3 day walk team so that we can make sure all members can walk. Each team member must raise $2300.00 this will help all of them get to that point. The tournament will be at the Biltmore in Phoenix on August 14th at 7am. More details to follow, we will have great prizes and silent auction items.

Michael Jackson has been dead for 1 year, he had to die to finally start to make money again. His estate has made over 1 billion dollars since his death, this means his chimp has some serious bananas. Sorry call me cynical but I would still not let my kids spend the night at Neverland Ranch.

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

Well I think Lindsay over did it again today. She is very tired and sore. Two boys will do that to you I guess. Thanks to Jody for being with her today. Hopefully next week's expansion will be the last and we can get the last surgery scheduled. Our life will change immensely once that final procedure is done and Lindsay can feel somewhat comfortable. Thanks once again for the thoughts and prayers you all send daily.

I had a guy at work today that just found out about Lindsay's health and what she has just gone through. This guy has a very rough exterior and is somewhat of a tough guy- a true Bud Man that has been with the company 30 years!!! When Lindsay still worked for Hensley, she was his favorite and called her his princess. He called me today after hearing the news and was very emotional on the phone. I believe I heard some tears in his voice. He said to give his little princess a soft hug for him and of course if we needed anything to call him. This just reaffirms to me how many people Lindsay has touched over the years and what a strong personality she has. It is amazing how people have responded to her journey. People are amazing and wonderful.

Circus

We were able to get to the circus tonight and let the boys enjoy the show. Did I miss something over the last 30 years? The bearded lady - had a fake beard. If you want a real bearded lady I see a few each day at Wal Mart. They had a person out there that was supposed to be half man and half woman. Don't they understand this is en vogue these days? The worlds strongest man had fake weights!! I guess everything is PC these days. The one thing they still do is torture those poor elephants. They make them stand on those little platforms and look like goofballs. I am sure the elephants are saying "one day I will crush you". Oh well the boys loved the show.

Monday, June 21, 2010

Dr. Boll did Lindsay's first expansion today. It was painful for her and very weird to watch. They put a large needle into the port in the expander- yes right through the skin. They then fill it with salt water. Today they put in 50cc's on each side. This creates pain, and pressure on that area. Those are some of the words that we have heard numerous times throughout this process. Pain and pressure- they always say that is what she is going to feel no matter what they will be doing to her. I have learned that I do not like either word. Hopefully there will only be a couple more expansions before the next surgery because she is in major pain again tonight due to the PRESSURE on her muscles, ribs and skin.

Thanks again to the Buddecke family for providing a fantastic dinner.

US Open

If you have not been to Pebble Beach I suggest you all go. It is where the Golf Gods live and it is the most breathtaking view you will ever see. I have had the privilege to play there and it is an entirely different experience when you walk the course the way we did Thursday and Saturday. I will have to say it was an amazing Father's Day gift. I was there with my boys and my brother and it was fantastic. It was nothing like the Phoenix Open. People actually watch golf at the US Open. I did get to see some high heels and plastic surgery (not due to breast cancer) when Tiger Woods' group would come through. Yes he had quite a following of Scottsdale looking women, you would think they would at least let him get divorced first. I never knew that Cougars prey on Tigers.

Well- it's been a couple of days- so I figured I would be the "guest blogger". It's Lindsay! Brian is spending the day traveling back from California with the boys. They had an amazing time back home- saw some friends, Uncle Ryan, Uncle Jake, cousins, and some great views at the Us Open! I am so glad they were able to go- but I will admit it made me a little homesick. What I wouldn't give to be back in Cali- maybe someday. Brian certainly deserved a break after all that he has been doing around here- maybe wasn't all that relaxing with 2 small children, but at least they could get away!

I have been feeling ok. Still moving extremely slow, but to be expected I suppose. I had Hadra with me over the weekend- she was very helpful. I am grateful for the unwavering friendships that are loving us and supporting us through this!

There are so many things that have happened over the last three weeks. We have been faced with challenges we've never faced before. We had difficult choices to make. As I look back now- I am so proud of what we have done. Our relationships are stronger, our faith is clear, and the little things just aren't as important. We've learned a lot about us, and a lot about those around us. From the time I was diagnosed, I said "I refuse to say I have breast cancer, I have simply been diagnosed. This will not become our life, it will be a part of our life. We will deal, and move on." As difficult as it has been at times, I believe that we have stuck to that- we are moving on! I say "we" and "us" because I certainly have not been doing this by myself. I have been carried throughout this by the love I receive from God, my husband, my children, and many more of you! The innocence and love from my little guys has been true medicine! I am so grateful. I await the day that we can help someone else who is going through this. I am ready to share, encourage, and walk alongside someone just beginning this journey.

Happy Father's Day to my amazing husband and all the wonderful fathers out there! Our children are watching every move we make- let's make smart moves!!!!!

Love to you all

Lindsay had a rough day today I think she over did it with activity today. Her back and chest hurt, they said that she would have good days and bad days hopefully that means tomorrow is going to be a good one. She was at least able to get out with some friends and be outside. Overall I can't believe how far she has come in 19 days it is amazing.

Thanks to the Kirby family for a wonderful dinner tonight. Thanks to the Hallums and all others that contributed to get a house cleaner today it was great. The lady that did the cleaning was here for 4 hours, I guess I must have missed a few spots over the last 19 days. I would like to apologize to her for the bathrooms our boys do not have the greatest aim.

Golf

I will be at the US Open this week a gift from my wonderful wife for Father's Day. Unfortunately she will not be attending considering some life changing things have happened since December when she bought the tickets. Lindsay will have someone staying with her starting tomorrow until I get home.

I guess I will get to see Tiger Woods a man I do not have much in common with. I do not have his game on or off the course. I just wonder if he will be trying to get Hoe in One, sorry I digress sometimes. I think I have a few more things in common with Phil.

Thanks again to my wonderful wife for the gift, I love you.

We went to get the first expansion done today but Dr. Boll was unable to do it. Lindsay still has an area on the right side that they cut so thin it went through the skin on the original surgery. The area is not completely healed so the doctor thought we should wait until next Monday. I don't think Lindsay was really looking forward to more pain again anyway. I know she really wants to get the expander's out asap they are very uncomfortable and rest right on her ribs. Each day continues to get better, unfortunately Lindsay is still sleeping in the recliner. She cannot seem to get comfortable laying flat on her back.

Just wanted to say thank you to the Locklin family for providing dinner Saturday night. I guess Firemen really can cook. Thanks to the Dunham family for hooking us up with dinner tonight and for bringing the kids by it was great to see them.

Just a thought

How is it that a pair of grown adults would allow their 16 year old daughter to go on a boat ride around the world by herself? I am going to have a hard enough time letting one of my boys drive around Chandler by themselves at 16.....

Friday, June 11, 2010

We went to see Dr. Eden today, he had the full pathology report for us. He said everything looked good with exception of the cancerous area. Lindsay asked about the chance of re-occurrence, he told her there are still possibilities but they are slim but we will continue to monitor the area. She felt a little better today, she took the boys to a movie in the morning so she was able to have inner action with actual adults. Thanks to the Foreman family for bringing dinner tonight and thanks to the Masters family for the stuff they brought as well. One of my buddies at work asked me today how long it had been since the surgery, he thought a week. I seems like it has been two months since the surgery, everything seems to have slowed down I think it is because we are out of our normal daily routines. I cannot believe how far she has come in 14 days, once again it is a testament to her strength and commitment to get better.

Just a thought

I was going through the U-Scan at the grocery store today, for those of you that do not use this option it is your opportunity to scan all of your groceries, pay and scan your own coupons. I scanned all of my items, bagged all of my items and then paid after swiping my value card(that could be another blog in itself, what are those cards all about just give us the discount). I start to leave without one store employee ever saying a word to me, on the way out I say thank you to the employee standing there at the podium. Shouldn't they be saying thanks to me? After all I did all of their work for them and paid a part of their paycheck by shopping at their store, how about a little thank you. Oh well at least I know I can scan, bag and pay which means if I ever need a job at that store I am way ahead of the game.

Lindsay was on her own for a big part of the day today, probably a little early for that but no choice. Thanks to Trisha and Alyssa for helping out during the day. I am home now and have one more day until vacation and we should be in a better place. She is still having some pain but once again each day is getting better. Her first expansion will be on Monday that will be a big test, I am sure it will hurt. Thanks to our neighbor Jo Jo for the food last night is was great.

Our son Dylan made mommy some rice crispy treats to help her feel better, I think they are working.

Tuesday, June 8, 2010

Wow another milestone today Lindsay drove a car. She looked like an old lady from Sun City doing it but it was great. Very slow turns and slow with the gas which is not usually her driving style but she is still very limited in what she can do. I think she is starting to feel like a real person again, she wanted to do some shopping. I think that is a sign of any woman starting to recover even if it was at Michaels and she only spent $12.00. Once again baby steps. Dr. Boll was very encouraging about the next surgery when she gets the expander's out and implants in. She said it is nothing near to what she just went through, no drains and it is outpatient surgery.

A special thanks to our friends the Goldmans at Zipps for supplying dinner tonight.

Political

Did I see today that Obama is now mad about what happened in the Gulf? I believe the oil spill is a true weapon of mass destruction, lets get some of our people back over here to help US out. My heart goes out to the people of Louisiana, it seems like devastation year after year down there. Unfortunately I don't think a Super Bowl win cleans up beaches and birds.

Sorry I have to retract a statement from my earlier blog. I stated that being exposed to lead based paint as a kid had no affect on me. I forgot to tell you that this morning our 2 year old son insisted on going to swimming lessons with his rain boots on. It was 110 degrees here today, not exactly rain boot weather. Looks like that paint went through me and made it to him. Sorry son.

B
Finally the second drain is out!!!!! Wow what a relief, Lindsay can now take a shower without one of us holding those drains. She can put on clothes that do not show the drains because they are no longer there. She can lift her arms a little bit higher and her spirits as well. The nurses said in the beginning that she would have a bad day and then maybe a good day and then another bad day. This was definitely one of the GOOD days. Thank you AZ grandma for helping with the boys today.

The last 11 days have gone by at a snails pace, it seems like it has been 11 weeks not days. The results we continue to see are definitely worth the wait. Not many things in life start as a train wreck and then get better each day. I can say that first day the day of surgery was my worst day and my best day all rolled into one. It was the worst to understand what my wife was going through on the operating table but it was the best once I reminded myself they were saving her life. How things change minute by minute and day by day.

Thank you in advance to Ms. Mary for helping with the boys tomorrow I know they will love their day.

Daily thoughts:

Someone told me today that now hand sanitizer may be bad for you. Seriously? Is anything out there really safe these days. As a kid I was brought up in a crib with lead based paint on it, there were no car seats for kids and our parents did not worry about germs at playgrounds or on shopping carts. How did we make it?

Sunday, June 6, 2010

Well we have good days and bad days, Lindsay in pain again today for some reason it comes and goes. We have a doctors appointment Monday and hopefully will get the second drain out continue to head in a better direction. I think the expander's are very uncomfortable for her, once she gets the actual implants in place it should be better. Grandma left town today, the boys were of course very upset. We had another wonderful woman bring us a fantastic dinner tonight, Lynette from Lindsays MOP's group and her friend Jennifer supplied us with a meal and desert. It is once again astonishing to me to see the selflessness of people that just want to help unconditionally. Things have not been perfect through out this journey but you must stick with it during the tough times to get to the good times......

Thanks again everyone.

Political talk

I was fortunate enough to see yet another national poll showing our state very low on the totem pole as far as education is concerned. Doesn't it seem like we waste a ton of time on things that aren't as important as our children's education, actually is there anything more important than that? We need family values back asap...

Friday, June 4, 2010

Yet another better day. We went to the doctor this morning. The drains needed to be at less than 30cc's of fluid per day. The right side drain was at 29 for the last 24 hours so Dr. Boll said we could get that one out today. They pulled it out and now Lindsay only has one drain on the left side which should come out Monday. I wish I could tell you how intrusive these are to a persons body but it is hard to describe. I know they are a means to an end and a way to make sure all fluid from surgery is gone but they truly are a bummer. We are almost there, I believe once she gets the second one out she will start to feel human again.

Once again I would like to thank all of the well wishers. I would like to thank the people that Lindsay works with, our Hensley family, friends from church, MOPS, Dayspring, swimming and so the list goes on. Everyone has been fantastic.

We will be having a golf tournament in August to support the walkers that have joined Lindsay's team for the Susan G. Komen walk in November. 3 days- 60 miles!! I will have details to follow but just wanted to put it in your minds if you feel like golfing in AZ in August. I think the team name is going to be Team Boobweiser.

Sports

Can you believe the D-Backs had 31 straight scoreless innings, sounds like my high school dating career.

8pm Well I will say thank you to all of you that were specific with your prayers, Dr. Eden called and said the pathology report came back. There is no sign of cancer in the right breast, no sign of cancer in the lymph nodes and the cancer that was detected has been removed. What this means is that Lindsay will not have to undergo chemo or radiation. Wooooooooooooo. We knew the surgery was extreme to rid her body of cancer was the main concern.

What kind of doctor calls you personally at 6:40 pm to break down your test results? Obviously we made the right decision with the choice of doctors. Of course I did give him a case of beer before surgery to make sure he was going to take care of my wife, I did make sure he did not drink it the night before or morning of surgery.

It is amazing how many different dates will be etched in time for us and will signify our future. God has a plan for all of us, I am not sure what it is but to be able to share our journey with someone that may be starting the same journey may be the reason. I know that he has taught us that our time here is short and we need to take care of one another which is what all of your loving, caring hands have been doing.

Lindsay was able to let me take her for a ride in the car today, we went and got her a sandwich and some lotion. Can you imagine an Arbonne consultant running out of lotion? Oh well it was great to get her out of the house.

Political talk - WE THE PEOPLE

I know our very good friend Sueanne may think I am on one side, I am actually a registered independent. All I would like is for our politicians whoever they are whatever side they are on to remember that we are the people, we trust them we want them to make the right decisions please.......

Wednesday, June 2, 2010

7pm Still waiting the results of the pathology test, this is yet one more hurdle we need to get over. The lymph nodes that were taken are the most important part of what the future holds, so when sending prayers for Lindsay please be specific to a negative test for the nodes. In my Dale Carnegie classes one of the lessons was "I'm tremendous, I'm terrific since I have learned to be specific" so please specify the lymph nodes. Lindsay had a somewhat bummer of a day the walls are closing in on her she wants to get out but still can't do too much. We may try to take a walk outside tonight after her shower, it should be down to a balmy 97 degrees by then.

Thanks again for all of the people bringing food, I think you all must think that I had surgery because you continue to bring my favorite food. Your generosity is amazing and overwhelming but very well received. The cupcakes cakes and pies are not going to wast either, thank you all.

Political talk

A catastrophic oil spill is going on in the Gulf of Mexico, it is threatening their way of life. They are trying to cap it, cut it and stuff it with mud. Couldn't they just plug it up with Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid? Just a thought.

Tuesday, June 1, 2010

4pm Just got back from the doctor she said the dressings on the drains look good even though they were hurting Lindsay pretty bad. Lindsay said it sure felt good to get some fresh air even though it is 100 degrees. We have another appt on Friday to get the discs on the drains changed out, common practice. Once again I think each day will get better, thanks for your thoughts.

Political Talk - Weather you agree or disagree with SB 1070 how does it make sense for the mayor of LA want everyone to boycott our state and the money coming into it. LA does not want their people to spend any money on conventions, loddging, restaurants etc. in Arizona. If they are so in favor of Hispanics why are they trying to take money out of their pockets? The last time I checked there was not a vote on this bill yet everyone wants to punish the people of our state. Do we boycott Mickey Mouse everytime the Govenator of California signs a bill that people may not agree with? Do we turn off Shamu's water supply everytime the Govenator of California says something people may not agree with?

4pm So far so good today, Lindsay is feeling a little better again and was able to get some rest today. Cali Grandma took the boys to the bookstore this morning which allowed me to get some cleaning done while Lindsay got some rest. Then I took the boys swiming at David and Lisa's house which it seems they have been living over there the last few days, thanks again to such a wonderful family.

Just one more time I would like to thank you all for the unwavering support and love I cannot believe people that we barely know have been bringing us dinners and gifts it sure makes you feel great about people and friends. Hope, fear, caring, pain, love and prayer these are all words that have taken on a new meaning these last few days.

8:10pm Lindsay had an ok day today she was able to get some rest even with two crazy boys running around. The pain is still there but I think thinks are getting a little more comfortable for her. The biggest pain in the butt are the drains, she has to have them in for about two weeks. I get to wear doctor gloves when I empty them so I think I am pretty cool. I am thinking about making a cameo on Greys Anatomy as Dr. McDorky.

B
10 am Lindsay was able to take a shower and wash her hair which made her feel like a new woman. Still having quite a bit of pain and disomfort but hopefully each day will continue to get better. She is resting at the moment.

Saturday, May 29, 2010

8 pm We are re-adjusting to home life. A friend was nice enough to let us borrow a recliner which seems to help Lindsay. She is still hurting pretty bad and has had a difficult night so far, she is peacefully sleeping for the moment I just hope as the days go by the pain will pass as well. The boys are great and a very nice woman from her MOPS group brought dinner tonight, thank you Noelle.

B
10:45 am 5/29 Lindsay is feeling ok she is getting some rest before the doctor comes in and most likely releases her. We will then be on our journey home and see what that brings. We will have two little boys trying to figure out what is going on with her and why she has drains hanging from her sides. Dylan might already have the answers since he feels he will be a doctor someday. Brady will be a little tougher because he loves it when mommy holds him and sleeps next to him. I guess daddy or grandma will have to do at this point. Hopefully it will be a great journey home god has blessed us so much this far.

9:50 pm. Lindsay is feeling better, she has been up quite a few times. Dr. Eden has cleared her to check out in the morning once he comes by to see her again. We have had some great nurses today with them taking the proper time to explain the after care. I think thousands of prayers that went out for Lindsay worked. She should run for governor with the kind of support she has, I would vote for her. Thanks to the many people that have meals set up for our family in the days to follow her discharge.

Sorry if it seems like I am talking about the same things, please let me know if you would like me to get into some political talk.

B
4:15 pm. Lindsay is feeling better, we took another good walk and is free from most of the contraptions that were hooked up to her. Still pain but the new medication is doing its job. The room smells like a garden there are so many flowers in here there is not much room to sit down. I think she has uncovered a new fashion called the ACE tube top it looks great on her. Thanks again for all of the thoughts and prayers and flowers.

B
2pm Hi guys- it's me Lindsay. Can't type much- it hurts too bad. Just wanted to say thanks for checking in and sending so much love. I will let Brian keep this up- he's pretty good at it don't ya think? I am going to eat some rainbow italian ice and go back to sleep. Love you all
10:45 am. Lindsay just took a walk down the hallway, still a little dizzy but doing a little better. Just took some new medication hopefully they will be longer lasting.

B
9:05 am. Lindsay just took some steps around the room still a little dizzy, she just had some toast and a little fruit. Dr. Eden showed up and talked to us about the surgery, he feels they were able to remove everything they needed to but we will still be waiting on the results of the pathology test which we should have next week. Her next dose of pain medication will be in pill form which will be good. Dr. Eden is leaving it up to her but indicated that she would probably be better served to stay another night, I think that is a good idea as well. Thanks again for all of the nice messages.

B
6:50 am. Lindsay stood up for a few minutes, still very dizzy so she did not take a walk yet we will soon. The night shift nurses not so good. Dr. Boll stopped by and cleared her to eat real food, room service starts at 7 so we will get some food in her soon and then over to more stable medication. Dr. Boll reaffirmed how happy she was with the surgery and could not believe what a great job Dr. Eden had done preserving the skin which made her job much easier. She said Lindsay could leave the hospital later today or in the morning depending on how she is feeling.

B
4:30 am. Still in pain but was able to sit up on the side of the bed, she has been able to sleep a little.

B
12:30 am. Rough night so far, Lindsay cannot seem to get comfortable the pain is still very high. I wish I could somehow take the pain away. She should be allowed to eat something in the morning then they will be able to put her on different medication I think that will be helpful.

B

Thursday, May 27, 2010

6:37 pm. Lindsay is resting in the room, she is still in quite a bit of pain obviously. The doctor said the 12 hours following the surgery would be the worst so she has about 9 to go. Hopefully she will feel up for visitors tomorrow but we will have to see at that time. Once again thanks for all of the messagaes and prayers. The boys are in good hands with AZ grandma and Cali grandma I don't even think they know we are gone jk. Thanks again to Lisa and Alyssa for watching them today.

B
It is now 1:55 pm. The plastic surgeon just finished the surgery, she is extremely pleased with the outcome. They did not have to take any skin which means the recovery and expansion process will be better than expected. She will now be in recovery for about an hour and will be in her room shortly after that. I cannot tell you how much all of your prayers have meant and obviously have worked so far. It definitely reassures me that Lindsay is the strongest and most courageous person I know. Thanks again for all the LOVE.

B
It is now 11:50, Dr. Eden is done with his portion of the surgery. They tested the cells behind the nipple and they came back cancer free so they were able to save them. The plastic surgeon (Dr. Boll) will now begin the reconstruction process which should take about 2 hours. The doctor said everything went well.

B
It is now 10:50 the nurse said the first surgeon is still working on her. She is stable and they said the surgery is going well.

B
Lindsay just went back for surgery, they started the actual surgery at 8:21 am. She was somewhat nervous just before going back, the nurses were great they were crying with us as well. Dr. Semerad came to visit her just before she went in which was fantastic, he has been Lindsays doctor for many years and delivered our two children. All of the staff said we are in great hand with the doctors we chose. They have blocked off 7 hours for the surgery, hopefully it will be shorter. Thanks again for all of the love and support.

Night before

I finally got this blog up so that Brian can update tomorrow. We are heading in to the hospital at 5:30am and surgery is scheduled to begin at 7:30am. The doctors anticipate surgery to last approximately 7 hours- so not sure how much info Brian will have until after that point. Either way- the prayers are appreciated! We are so blessed to have the support we do- so thank you. These last two months have been LONG, but the time is finally here. Ready to move on and see what God has planned! Love you all and will be back soon- stronger and healthier than ever!!!! Good night for now- more to come in the am
